About the project

At University Heights Phase 2 in Squamish, I had the opportunity to serve as Site Supervisor at Holborn for 54 single-family houses, overseeing the day-to-day construction activities of this multi-residential development. My role included coordinating trades, ensuring compliance with building codes and safety standards, and managing schedules to keep the project on track.

From excavation to finishing stages, I worked closely with engineers, architects, and subcontractors to maintain quality control and deliver homes that meet the community’s high expectations. This project not only strengthened my technical expertise but also highlighted my ability to lead teams, solve on-site challenges, and ensure that every detail aligns with the design vision.

This project represents a modern, energy-efficient single-family residence designed for long-term durability and comfort. As the Site Supervisor, I oversaw all on-site coordination, quality control, and construction compliance under the 2018 BC Building Code.

The home features a refined architectural design by Frits de Vries Architects Ltd., integrating open living areas, efficient spatial flow, and full natural light exposure through large glazed areas—while remaining within UH-1 zoning and limiting-distance requirements. This project was completed while employed at Holborn Group, with responsibilities focused on site supervision and construction coordination.

Frequently Asked Questions

The home uses a reinforced concrete foundation supporting a conventional wood-frame superstructure engineered per the 2018 BC Building Code. Foundation bearing capacity = 2,500 psf for pad and strip footings. Floors framed with LVL beams and TJI joists for load distribution. Structural steel components (G40.21 300–350 MPa grades) used for critical connections. All steel welding per CSA W59/W47.1 with inspection requirements before pour and covering framing wor

The project meets BC Energy Step Code through high-performance assemblies: Walls: 2×6 studs @ 16″ o/c with R-24 batt plus R-6 mineral wool exterior insulation (RSI 4.8). Roof: R-48 (2 lb spray foam vaults and flat ceiling insulation). Windows: Double-glazed Low-E argon units (U-1.4 W/m²·K, SHGC 0.35). Foundation: 2.5″ R-12.5 XPS under slab; airtight weather-barrier system (taped and sealed). Mechanical: Ground-source heat pump (COP ≥ 3.5) with HRV (60 SRE). These elements combine to achieve TEDI and GHGI targets under 2018 BCBC 9.36
Foundations use reinforced concrete walls and footings, with minimum cover of 40 mm (1½″) for formed surfaces exposed to ground. Inspections required: Before placing rebar (“prior to pour”) and before forms are closed. Engineer notice ≥ 24 hours for each site visit; failure may jeopardize final certification. Framing and steel to be inspected before any additional loads or finishes applied
The interior plans include customized reflected ceiling layouts for each zone: LED pot-lighting throughout with dimmer control and motion sensors in garage and hallways. Under-cabinet LED strips in kitchen and bathrooms for accent lighting. Hardwired smoke/CO detectors and electrical for EV charging (30 A EVC pre-wire). Gas fireplace (Enviro C44 Linear) wired per manufacturer specifications and architectural switch coordination
